Junk Your Car, Keep your Plates in Indianapolis, Indiana!
Indianapolis, Indiana-This subject is the point of confusion among many people that are junking their car. They don't know if they should keep their license plate off of their junk cars. The simple answer is yes, when junking your old car, take off your license plate and keep it. The license plate does not go with the junk car. In many cases the Bureau of Motor Vehicles will actually refund you some money if you take your license plate in off of your junk car or junk truck. Make it a point to have your license plate off of your junk car before the tow truck driver gets there. It is not the
tow truck drivers responsibility to remove your license plate, but most will if you politely ask and they have the proper tools. (don't assume they will have the tools). In some states the license plates go with the car, in Indiana, you own the plates. One exception to rule of removing your license plate from your junk car before the tow truck driver gets there is unless you live in an apartment complex that will tow your junk car if it doesn't have a license plate on it. Most apartments complexes will tow your junk car if it is sitting on a flat tire or has no license plate or even an expired license plate. If your junk car is in danger of being towed by the apartment complex, let the junk car buyer know this when you are calling around. They will make an effort to get there even faster for you.
